Easy Dessert


When your sugar cravings kick in the last place you want to be is in the kitchen for hours. Luckily, there are enough recipes that can easily be prepared in less than half an hour. Whether it be due to an unplanned get-together with friends, a celebratory event, or simply a desire for something sweet, these will be stress-free even if the sweets recipes are really easy to prepare. Below are some simple yet mouth-watering desserts which are quick and easy to make, and which will definitely impress.

1. Chocolate Mousse Without Baking

Ingredients

Cream – 1 cup

Choco-chip (semisweet or black) – ½ cup

Sugar Powder – 2 tbsp

Vanilla essence – 1 tsp

Instructions

1. Melt the Chocolate: In a heatproof bowl place the chocolate chips and microwave it for 30 seconds stirring in between every 30 seconds until melted.

2. Whip the Cream: In a different bowl place the heavy whipped cream, powdered sugar and vanilla extract together and whip until stiff peaks form.

3. Combine: With a spatula, carefully combine the melted chocolate and the whipped cream until no streak of whipped cream remains.

4. Chill: Transfer the mousse into individual serving cups and chill in the refrigerator for not less than 15 minutes before serving.

Notes 

This no-bake chocolate mousse recipe is quite rich and creamy while at the same time very easy to make. You can also make it more beautiful and appetizing by adding berries or cocoa powder on top.

2. 3-Ingredient Peanut Butter Cookies

Ingredients

Peanut Butter – 1 cup

Sugar – 1 cup

Egg – 1

Instructions 

1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat the oven to three hundred and fifty degrees Fahrenheit or one hundred and seventy-five degrees Celsius.

2. Mix Ingredients: In a bowl, mix together the peanut butter, sugar and egg, producing a thick paste.

3. Form Cookies: Take approximately tablespoonful of the dough and place it on a baking tray, lined with a parchment paper in intervals so that they do not touch. Use a fork to flatten the round balls crosswise and leave a mesh pattern.

4. Bake: Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are golden brown.

standard 8-inch tortillas using 1 tablespoon of melted butter. Dust them with some sugar. Bake the coated tortillas until slightly crisp for about 5-7 minutes. Do not over bake. After removing the tortillas from the oven, cover them with the damp towel immediately for them to cool down.

Notes

During the summer I made these with fresh strawberries too. However, during tough winter months, these strawberry chips were the answer to my cravings.

Tortilla chips can be coated with cinnamon sugar to make a randacima sugar chips. Enjoy these sugar chips with ice cream or as a side snack. Great for kids’ parties.

6. Berry Yogurt Parfait

Ingredients

2 cups Greek yogurt

1 cup mixed berries (fresh or frozen)

1/2 cup granola

Honey or maple syrup (optional)

Instructions

1. Layer Ingredients: In serving glasses or bowls, layer the Greek yogurt, mixed berries, and granola.

2. Drizzle: If desired, drizzle with honey or maple syrup for added sweetness.

3. Serve: Enjoy immediately or refrigerate for a short time before serving.

Cost: Approximately $5

Notes

This parfait is not only a time friendly but a healthier dish. Any seasonal fruit may be used in place of or the flavour of the yogurt may be varied.

4. Chocolate-Covered Strawberries

Ingredients

1 cup fresh strawberries

1/2 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or dark)

1 tablespoon coconut oil (optional)

Instructions

1. Melt the Chocolate: Place the chocolate chips (and coconut oil if you are using it) in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat up the chocolate chips at 30 seconds intervals until chocolate is melted. Careful, stir the chocolate to create a smooth mixture.

2. Dip the Strawberries: Take the whole strawberry by its stem and dip into the chocolate. Make sure all excess chocolate is not dripping off.

3. Set: Arrange covered strawberries on a tray lined with parchment paper. Keep in the refrigerator for about 10-15 minutes or until chocolate covered strawberries dried up.

Cost: Approximately $8

Notes

These two desserts are simpler and quicker to make though they are just as impressive as a chocolate cake or chocolate eclairs. Strawberry drizzles taste lovely as well on top.

5. Cinnamon Sugar Tortilla Chips

Ingredients

4 flour tortillas

1/4 cup melted butter

1/4 cup sugar

1 tablespoon cinnamon

Instructions

1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

2. Prepare Tortillas: For standard 8 inch tortillas, 1 tablespoon butter is sufficient to coat both sides of the tortillas. Put some sugar on top of the tortillas. Bake the coated tortillas until slightly crisp for about 5-7 minutes. Do not over bake. After removing the tortillas from the oven, cover them with a damp towel instantly so that they will cool down more.

Cost: Around $3

Remarks

The chips dip well in any sauce whether it’s chocolate sauce, fruit salsa, or yogurt. They are interesting as opposed to the usual chips and can also be made with various seasonings of one’s choice.

6. Mug Cake

Required Ingredients

4 tablespoons of all-purpose flour

4 tablespoons of sugar

2 tablespoons of cocoa powder

⅛ teaspoon of baking powder

3 tablespoons of milk

2 tablespoons of vegetable oil

¼ teaspoon of vanilla extract

Optional: chocolate chips or nuts

Recipe

1. Combine Dry Ingredients: In an extra large microwave safe mug combine whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder and baking powder.

2. Add Wet Ingredients: Add milk, vegetable oil and vanilla extract and stir till smooth. Stir in chocolate chips if using.

3. Microwave: Put it in the microwave for 1 minute 30 seconds or until cake rises and cooks through.

4. Cool and Enjoy: Wait for a minute or so cool it and then dig in.

Notes

This is suspended animation in chocolate cravings because of how fast it is made without having to bake a chocolate cake. Decorate the top with what you like – whipped cream, ice cream or other treats.

7. Frozen Dessert without a Dairy Product- A Banana variant

Ingredients

2 ripe bananas

How to prepare

1. Freeze Bananas: Take ripe bananas and slice them into small round pieces. Put the pieces in a zip-loc bag and place it in a freezer for 2 hours.

2. Blend: After two hours take out the banana pieces from the freezer and put them in a blender otherwise food processor. Blend the mixture to evenly smear it.

3. Serve: As soft-serve right away or pack in freezer for another 30 minutes for firmer texture.

Notes

This very nutritious and satisfying dessert does not contain any dairy and additional flavors can be added using peanut butter, cocoa powder or vanilla extract.

8. Fast Apple Crumble

Ingredients

2 apples, peeled and cut into wedges

1/2 cup oats

1/4 cup brown sugar

1/4 cup flour

1 teaspoon cinnamon

Cost: Around $3
